#36 It’s easy to blow your budget at Christmas. Especially if you’re trying to buy gifts and be generous to charities. The way we manage both is to save money every month for our holiday charity giving. That money goes automatically into that account and we don’t touch it until Black Friday. We spend half of it on blankets and warm items. The other half we use to play Santa for kids being served by a local organization. Those kids make two wishes and we do our best to make them happen. Then we wrap the presents, put on some tags, and deliver them to be distributed. I think, actually, that it is more an act of kindness to ourselves. It is so fun to toy shop. It makes us feel really happy to know that these kids will have something to open on Christmas.
Action you can take: ask at your church or a local community organization if they know of a toy program for kids. You can always donate to Toys for Tots or participate in the United States Post Office’s Operation Santa.
