#59 Support the Survivors of Sexual Assault

#59 A New York Police Captain said last week, “If there’s a true stranger rape, a random guy picks up a stranger off the street, those are the troubling ones.” As a survivor of sexual assault, by someone I knew, by someone I would come across for many years, I find it ludicrous that anyone would think any rape was anything but troubling. I also think it especially important to support organizations that help people who are sexual assault victims. Did you know that sexual assault victims have to surrender their clothing for DNA evidence? This means that in most cases the victim is further traumatized by having to wear a hospital gown home. Today’s act of kindness is a donation to the Grateful Garment Project. The Grateful Garment Project provides new clothing, food, grooming supplies and other resources to the Sexual Assault Service Providers in the state of California. They need both financial and clothing donations.
Action you can take: Make a donation to an organization that supports sexual assault victims, find out if the victims in your area are given clothing to wear home – if not, contact The Grateful Garment Project and see if they will help you start a program in your area.
